You asked, we answered
No surprises, no confusion. Here are some answers to the most common questions about alerts, overdraft protection, and our debit card.
What kind of account is my Kudzu account?
Your Kudzu account is a demand deposit account, or DDA. A demand deposit account allows you to deposit money and retrieve it at any time on demand. Demand deposit accounts require no advance notice to the financial institution that holds your money. You also have the option to open an interest-earning3 Kudzu savings account, which will allow you to accrue interest on funds that you don’t plan to spend right away.
How do I add money to my Kudzu spending account?
You have multiple options for adding money to your account: direct deposit, remote check deposits, and cash transfers4 at 50,000 Visa ReadyLink merchants. You can also connect other Kudzu accounts or external accounts and make transfers that way.
How do SpendSense Alerts work?
With SpendSense Alerts1, you can create daily, weekly, and/or monthly spending thresholds for yourself in the app or online and get notified when you reach your limits. While you will be able to continue spending once you’ve reached your limit, SpendSense Alerts help you take notice of your spending, get accustomed to setting and working within a budget and identify where you may be able to make some changes to your spending habits.
What is the difference between SpendSense Alerts and Kudzu Alerts?
Kudzu Alerts are real-time notifications1 that help you stay aware of your account activity, like purchases, withdrawals, deposits, and low balances. These alerts are built to keep you informed and in control, without needing to log in and check your account constantly. SpendSense Alerts1, on the other hand, is a part of the Kudzu toolkit. These alerts notify you when you’ve hit spending limits that you define. While Kudzu Alerts show you what is happening, SpendSense Alerts help guide how you spend. Both are there to help you build financial awareness, just in different ways.
Can I change my alert settings?
You have full control over both your Kudzu Alerts1 and SpendSense Alerts1 in the app or online. For Kudzu Alerts, you can customize them to include things like transactions, low balances, and more. For SpendSense Alerts, you can set your own daily, weekly, or monthly spending limits. For both, you can choose between SMS, email, and push notifications.
What happens if I spend more than I have?
With Kudzu, you never get charged an overdraft fee–no matter what. If the funds aren’t available, we’ll simply decline the transaction so you don’t spiral into a cycle of fees. Additionally, with Covered by Kudzu2, you can choose to automatically transfer money from your savings account (up to 10 times per month) or the charge will be declined. To be eligible, you’ll need to keep at least $50 in your savings account. For Kudzu+5 members we offer even more protection. With Covered by Kudzu+™6, we’ll spot you up to $100 if your balance is too low (even with transfers from savings), helping you cover purchases in the moment. Just make sure you’ve received at least $100 in qualifying deposits to be eligible. And you’ll repay only what we covered—no fees, no interest.
